"We call upon all citizens of good will and people of faith to join us providing this life-giving aid and
hospitality to migrants in need in the desert. We believe that respect for human rights, the right to render humanitarian aid under U.S. immigration law and our ethical responsibility to save human lives demand this of us all."
(from June 27 2002 letter sent to David Aguilar, U.S. Border Patrol Chief)
In loving memory of
Samaritan Sr. Renilde Cade
She passed away Nov. 13th 2008
One of her ministries in heaven will be the watchful loving care of those crossing the desert. She will be deeply missed here on earth.
Please celebrate Renilde as you journey the desert.

The authors are all Tucson residents and Samaritan volunteers working to
provide life-saving water and medical
aid to travelers in the desert.
Over the past ten years, more than
4000 people have died while crossing
the Arizona desert to find jobs, join
families or start new lives. Other
migrants tell of the corpses they pass--bodies that are never recovered
or counted. "Crossing with the Virgin' collects stories heard from migrants about these trecherous treks --firsthand accounts told to volunteers for the Samaritans, a
humanitarian goup that seeks to prevent such unnecessary deaths by
providing these travelers with medical aid, food and water.
